The Dance

Nightly we perform a ritual dance,
…..you step forward, I follow
….you retreat, I step forward.
Occasionally you step closer,
to narrow the distance between,
….but then you retreat again.
Sometimes I misstep or retreat;
It’s not that I wish to lead…
but maybe I am not certain to where you will lead
….or maybe I am scared.
Are you scared?
Is that why we sometimes dance in circles…
….me afraid to follow blindly…..
you uncertain of where you wish to lead?
Do we hear the same music
as we perform this ritual?
I don’t know….
…..I just hope you are there when the
music reaches its
final strands of harmony.
